The Gulf Coast 500 is an incomparable list of companies headquartered on the Gulf Coast of Florida. Literally. There is no other list like it.
What you hold in your hands is a compilation of the 500 largest companies on the Gulf Coast, from Tampa Bay to Naples. No one else comes near creating such a list as this.
All of the companies are ranked by 2009 revenues, in millions, according to each company’s fiscal year. We attempted to gather gross revenues from each company, to give you the most accurate comparisons. This is important because different industries account for revenues in different fashions.
Industries with extremely high pass-through revenues were asked to provide a figure excluding much of that extra revenue. Realtors, mortgage brokers, insurance and advertising agencies were told to provide gross commissions and PEOs were asked to report gross leased billings.
The data for the Gulf Coast 500 comes from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., Hoover’s Inc. and interviews and surveys with the companies. Some companies declined to be included this year, particularly those in the hardest-hit industries.
